October Newsletter

From the Superintendent/Principal

The following monthly newsletter is provided with the intent of giving you information regarding activities important to our school.

Parent Club

All parents are encouraged to join the monthly Parent Club meetings. This month, the meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. A Spanish translator will be available at the meeting. The next major functions of the year the Parent Club will be hosting are the football and volleyball tournament on Friday, October 13th as well as serving dinner at the Halloween Carnival on Friday, October 27th.  They will need a lot of volunteers to make these activities successful.

Red Ribbon Week

To emphasize our commitment in saying no to the abuse of drugs and/or alcohol, the week of October 23rd has been designated as Red Ribbon Week. Students in grades kindergarten through third will participate in a poster contest and students in fourth through eighth participate in an essay contest or skits.  On Friday, there will be three assemblies at which time the award winners at each of the grade levels will make their presentations. There will be dress up days throughout the week.  Dress up days include: Monday – Sports Day, Tuesday – Twins Day, Wednesday – Western Day, Thursday – Dress to Impress, Friday – Rockford Spirit Day.

Science Dipity Family Night

Rockford will be hosting a family night on Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 p.m.  Families are invited to come and participate in interactive science and engineering projects.

End of Quarter

The first quarter grades will be closing on Friday, October 13th.  Please make sure your student has turned in all of their work and completed their required AR points.  You may check your students’ points on the school website:  www.rockfordschooldistrict.org

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on the week of October 23-26.  There will be an early dismissal each of these days at 1:00 p.m. Your child’s teacher will be sending a note home regarding the time of your scheduled conference.  Please be on time for your scheduled appointment.

Book Faire

Rockford will be hosting a Book Faire during parent-teacher conferences October 23rd – 26th. The Book Faire will be open in the library from 1:00 to 4:00 each afternoon.

Halloween Carnival

The Halloween Carnival will be on Friday, October 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Dinner will begin at 5:00 on the playground. The Parent Group is selling tickets in advance for taco dinners. The costume parade will begin at 5:45 by the office.  Games will open at 6:00. All families are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Students may dress up for the carnival, but are not allowed to come to school dressed in a costume. There will be early dismissal at 1:00 on this day. We hope to see you here!!!!

Classroom Disruptions

It is important for students and teachers to have instructional time with minimal disruptions.  Students arriving to school late or leaving early interrupts the routine of the classroom.  If possible, please schedule appointments before or after school hours.  There are an overwhelming number of students leaving right before dismissal each day.  We understand that occasionally appointments can only be scheduled during school hours, but please be mindful of the effect it has on the classroom. If you will have a change of transportation plans, you must notify the office before 2:00 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this matter.
